1945 WILLYS-OVERLAND 1/4 TON TRUCK MB "Jeep"

Perhaps the most famous US Army vehicle of WWII is the 1/4 ton 4 x 4 truck. It was nicknamed the "Jeep" after the early Minneapolis-Moline prime movers of the late 30's. Many believe the name "Jeep" to be derived from the US Army designation of the vehicle as general purpose or GP. The usage of "Jeep" predates the introduction of the well know

The Ford Motor Company and American Bantam Motor Company also made the Jeep. Willys was the largest manufacturer of the vehicle. The Jeep served in all theatres of the war including the Russian front. It was used to transport personnel, haul equipment, weapons and ammunition.
